Special Health Care Needs (KS)
Children that live in Kansas that have or are at risk for a chronic disease or disability are considered to be children with special health care needs (CSHCN). Both the state of Kansas and CMFHP offer assistance to those with special heath care needs.CMFHP Services
The CMFHP Special Health Care Needs (SHCN) Outreach Coordinators work with Kansas Special Health Services Program (SHS) program staff to assist in providing care for members that are enrolled in the program.
Members with ongoing special health care concerns that do not qualify for or are not enrolled in the SHS program may be referred to a CMFHP Care Manager for further assistance. Care Managers work with children and adults on our health plan that have complex health needs. A Pediatric or Adult Care Manager may be able to help you coordinate health care needs or troubleshoot issues.
Kansas members with special health care needs can contact an SHCN Outreach Coordinator for assistance with questions or concerns regarding CMFHP.
State of Kansas Services
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) provides services to those with special health care needs through the Special Health Services Program (SHS).
SHS can provide additional coverage for services to assist special needs individuals. Enrollees can have other insurance but are not required to. This program acts as the payer of last resort behind a participant’s current insurance company. Many illnesses qualify; some are subject to age limitation.
